Singing can make the body cope better with stress, dancing can relieve pain and music can prevent high blood pressure. Prescription culture already exists in healthcare. Singing, dancing, painting and listening to music can do great things for health, but what happens in the body?
We react physically and mentally to music, but the individual variations are great. The effects depend on our musician experiences, the context and the current mood.
Often you want to simplify the message and say that “music makes you healthy!”. But it is not quite that simple. In a study of how the pulse changes when listening to music, we saw that someone reacted very much, another not at all, says Dave.

In one study, IBS patients were allowed to participate in either choral singing or a conversation group once a week for six months. The driving group saw an increase in the hormone testosterone, which repairs cells, while the level was unchanged in the discussion group. The content of the protein fibre, which is linked to stress, decreased in the driving group, but increased in the discussion group. More than 100 girls aged 13-18, who had recurrent body aches and / or recurrent anxiety, worry, depression and / or a feeling of exclusion, were drawn to either dance twice a week in a dance hall or control group that did not receive any effort. They always started with aphrodisiac dances and then had different themes, such as show jazz with a focus on joy or street dance with a focus on anger and boundaries. Music and dance can also be used as elements of psychotherapy. For music therapy, there is strong scientific support from hundreds of studies in various conditions – it can, among other things, improve the social ability of children with autism. Dance therapy has also been shown to have an effect on, among other things, eating disorders, depression, trauma, ADHD, Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
In expressive art therapy, all artistic expressions are used: image, music, dance and movement, film and photography, theater and text – such as fairy tales, myths and poetry. You get help to deal with difficult life experiences by moving between the different artistic languages and getting in touch with your curiosity and resources.
